Not So Funny

Hubby got a call yesterday from the insurance adjuster. They want to junk the truck!! According to them, they've "discovered" more work that needs to be done. Brian, the adjuster, said that after the garage "opened" the truck & looked inside, they found it needed some more work, plus, to fix the dent in the side, they want to replace the entire bed of the truck!! The extra work on the inside has something to do with the electrical for the stereo. I want hubby to talk w/ the guys at the shop, find out how much it'll cost to fix just the locks, ignition & dent {w/o getting a whole new bed!}, & if it all comes to, or under what the insurance co. will pay {I believe it's around $4,000}, then tell them that's what we want to do. We can fix the dome light ourselves & have a car stereo co. fix the radio. He's convinced that the ins. co. won't go for it. They are in the business of making money, and it's to their advantage to pay us the truck's value {I think they said that's $58,000} then sell it for salvage, getting back a big chunk of what they paid us for it. We had a big discussion last night about the whole thing. My feelings are, we've paid our premiums on time, every month for over a year, they should fix it the way we want it fixed. He doesn't want to deal with this guy Brian {he doesn't want to get bitchy w/ him!!} & since I have no problem with that, I get to haggle with him!! My tough guy!! LOL Got my fingers crossed.

TY for today's freebies. I'm sorry to hear about your truck probs. We have had to had the insurance company "buy out" 2 of our vehicles for what they would pay and we paid the difference to have it fixed. Maybe your will do the same, good luck!

Thanks for the pretty bow. Maybe you can take the money the ins. offers & ask to buy the truck back then fix it yourself for half the price...you end up with the truck & extra cash when you are done.

thanks for the piece of the kit today.

Check your state insurance laws. We found in our state that the insurance company had to give us the cost of replacement based on actual vehicles with the same features and conditionfor sale. If the one that we found that we wanted was more than their estimate, they had to give us the difference. Make sure the insurance company know and values every extra that you have on the truck.

As to your truck...I understand how insurance companies can mess with you. I had three deer run into the side of my little compact car a few years ago which totalled out the entire passenger side, windshield, headlight, etc. It was still driveable, just not pretty anymore. The insc co. decided that the cost to repair it was more than the car was worth so wanted to total it. I told them I wanted to buy it back totalled, so they gave me the amount of the assessed car value less the buyback amount (which is the value the junk yard would have given them, in this case it was $150). I made sure I hung onto the title so it wouldn't get stamped as "junked". I then used some of the money to fix the windshield, headlight, pound out some of the dents and am still driving it 3 years later. So don't let the Insc Co jerk you around. Go get em girl. Show them who is boss.
