I have to get this out ~ I've noticed many designers now giving away more and more freebies on their Blogs. This I think is a great idea; doesn't bother me at all. In fact a couple were giving away whole kits, a download a day. Again, this doesn't really bug me. What bothers me is them "begging" for praise. Each time they put up a link for their Blog freebie they also add a "please give me some love if you download". Please. Sorry if I offend anyone, but isn't the fact they're downloading the freebie & posting layouts in galleries (crediting the Designer) praise enough? Now I'm not saying I don't want those who download my freebies (or buy a kit) to send me their thanks and appreciation, I enjoy reading them, but I'm not going to stoop to begging for it either. I want those who comment to do so because they are kind enough to let me know how they feel about my post or kit, not because I've guilted them into leaving "some love".
So, I'm done crabbing about begging for complements, now on to the good stuff....
This Sunday I'm having a 30% off sale on everything, including the new kit, Bandana Pajamas. And I'm adding a new freebie ~ Pity Party. Oh, and I've added some older kits to the Sale Rack at a huge discounted price. So stop by on Sunday, check things out, maybe buy a kit or 2, and grab the freebie. (And you don't have to leave me "some love" unless you want to!!)
Geeze, should give you a look at them, right??!! Here is Bandana Pajamas & the freebie, Pity Party ~

I don't think asking for a simple thank you is too much! I don't sell I just give my stuff away because I like to design and I like to have people comment on what I have done to give an indication of what people like. Now I have given many kits away and most of the time I will get like a dozen comments which I really appreciate but if you look at the download meter they are in the hundreds sometimes even over the thousand. I spend hours (albeit enjoyable hours) to make these things I don't think by asking for some comments is "stooping". I think it's very rude for people to take your stuff without even an acknowlegement of some kind. I'm totally reasonable too I can understand sometimes people get in a rush or forget. I am guilty of it sometimes. But I would suspect that there are a lot of selfish people out there that just hop from one freebie to another and don't even care whether you put a lot of work into something they can now use at their leisure for free. For me comments are a sign of appreciation nothing more. OK sorry for the rant. I do love your new kits :-)
I am not a designer, so my response may be a bit biased. I don't mind leaving comments of thanks, they worked hard and deserve to be thanked. But what has me wondering is when there is a download a day to get the kit, and the kit has say, 6 or more downloads, it gets a bit overdone to have to leave a comment everyday for a kit you already previewed and commented on. You say thanks for the first piece, then the next, and the next, until you have the complete kit. I mean, how many times are you suppose to say thank you and how much you appreciate the same kit?
I understand the designers put a lot of time into their designs and I do appreciate that they are willing to share their work for free. But do they really need/want praises from the same person, 10 times, for the same kit?
Yes I agree with the point on daily downloads. In fact unless it's an ultra brilliant kit I don't even bother because it is too easy to forget and I think requiring people to come back for X amount of days is unneccesary. It does not make me want to buy anything from that designer. The quality and style of their product is what makes me buy not a few dozen scattered freebies.
