I'm sure the whole community will be struggling to deal with this tragic event. Your niece will have many wounds to heal...both physically AND emotionally. After all, the poor girl who died was her good friend. Speaking from personal experience, she may even have some "survivor guilt"...the "why wasn't it me and not her?" kinds of questions. <BR/>Please try to remember not to tell her she was "lucky"...I remember hating to hear that when I was in a similar situation when I was 19. There is never any explanation that helps one truly understand why one lives and one dies. All I can suggest is that her family lets her know (out loud) that she is loved, and that they will be there for her no matter what..and that it just wasn't her "time". I hope that the boy you mentioned pulls through and that the other teens will be OK too. I will be thinking and praying for them all. I also hope that your SIL and the others have access to grief counsellors through the school or community...as they can be a big help. My heart goes out to all of you. Many cases it is exactly that, joy riding. My very good friend lost her 15 year old daughter to a joy riding incident. Several drill team and cheerleaders going too fast on the curves on country roads for fun. I say to everyone, always question nights out, check with parents to make sure the kids are really spending the night there and that those parents have a curfew you agree with. Go with your instincts, if it seems suspicious, check it out or just say no. Do whatever you have to do to keep your child alive during these dangerous years. This will make you unpopular for a day or two at times, but I prefer that over funerals. On a happier note, your niece will be fine with time it seems. My own 16 year old hit an 18 wheeler head on rushing to a rodeo from work. He had many orthopedic injuries but with therapy and support teenagers heal incredibly fast and I feel sure your niece will as well. Prayers are with you all.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20376105.post-1169714957531901842007-01-25T01:49:00.000-07:002007-01-25T01:49:00.000-07:00So sad about that poor girl - best wishes to your ...So sad about that poor girl - best wishes to your niece, SIL & your family too. *hugs*paintingsiggihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05143311675950286664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20376105.post-1169701873181460222007-01-24T22:11:00.000-07:002007-01-24T22:11:00.000-07:00So sad.... but glad your niece is ok...So sad.... but glad your niece is ok...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
